The publication’s own storage use
The editorial pages and supplied site script do not set cookies, read or write localStorage or sessionStorage, or use analytics and advertising trackers. They do not assign a visitor identifier. Reading the articles and opening the navigation menu do not require persistent browser storage.
Any separate consent or hosting controls shown by the site’s delivery platform are outside the editorial script. Where such controls are present, use their settings to review the categories and preferences they manage. A saved consent choice is distinct from the contents of a note you prepare.
What cookies and local storage mean
Cookies are small values that a browser can store for a website and send with relevant requests. Local storage holds values that site scripts can access in the browser. Neither is necessary for the publication’s article navigation, question panels or scroll-reveal effects.
Ordinary browser caching is different again: your browser may retain page resources such as styles, scripts and images to load them efficiently. Caching is not a record of a message sent to us and does not mean the local note tool has submitted anything.
| Action | Where information goes | How to remove it |
|---|---|---|
| Write or preview | Page memory; browser features may independently preserve form state. | Clear the fields and close the page; review browser form-restoration settings. |
| Copy note | Your device clipboard, if permission is granted. | Clear the clipboard or replace its contents; review clipboard history. |
| Download .txt | A local file saved by your browser. | Delete the saved file and any copies or backups you no longer need. |
| Open email link | Your chosen email application opens. | Manage drafts and sent messages in that application. |
Managing browser settings
Your browser’s privacy or site-data settings let you inspect and remove stored website data. Controls differ by browser and device. Deleting site data may also remove preferences stored by a separate consent layer, causing it to ask again on a future visit.
Browser extensions, password managers and device services may have their own storage and synchronisation features. On a shared device, avoid leaving sensitive text in form fields, clipboard history, downloads or email drafts. Clearing cookies alone does not delete those items.
External sources
Source links open other websites, which may set their own cookies or use other storage. Their policies and controls apply once you visit them. No external source needs to be opened to read our articles.
